Hello Reader,
I hope you had a good weekend. One thing that I heard earlier in my career working in sales that has stuck with me, is that you should be excited for Mondays and not dread them. Living for the weekend is not a great approach to life because of the implication it has. The weekend is only two to three days depending on how you crunch the numbers and Sunday is the beginning of a new week. Living for the weekend implies you don’t get much out of what you do the rest of the days of the week. I was exposed to the paradigm that Monday represents a new opportunity. Appreciate every new opportunity that comes your way and try to make the most out of it.
What I am Interested In This Week:
Dave Ramsey Endorses Trump
Dave Ramsey is a radio personality, host of his own show “The Ramsey Report” and CEO of his own company, Ramsey Solutions. He is known for the financial advice he gives for helping people build and manage wealth. On his show last week he endorsed Donald Trump for president. He encouraged his viewers to think practically and objectively on that matter, saying ostensibly that neither Trump or Harris are Jesus. These candidates can’t save you nor can they give you any interpersonal solace that you may need. The identity politics of who you vote for, while it could have social repercussions, though it shouldn’t, will not impact the fundamentals of your daily life.
That said, what happens at the white house could impact what is possible for you to do within the context of your house. He said that no one should be a one issue voter and that the differences are clear. On the top five or ten issues it doesn’t take a genius to know where each person stands and for him, while he doesn’t agree fully with Trump, he aligns with him on more issues than he does with Vice President Kamala Harris. I find this relevant because millions of people find value in the work Ramsey does in regards to finance and see him as a go-to on the topic. His expertise is sought after. Additionally, even though it’s 2024 some people may still be afraid to publicly support Trump because of the potential for social consequences. Ramsey is demonstrating why he is a trusted leader by having and displaying the strength of his convictions.
…The Smaller One Down the Street
There are only 16 days until the United States presidential election and as both candidates make their final pitch, and since we haven’t gotten a third debate this cycle, basically everything these two people do up until November 6th is newsworthy. Kamala Harris appears to have beef with Jesus. The specific incident I am referring to is a one off and it can be difficult to hear what people are saying when they are yelling at you while you’re at a lectern, but once you add some context things become a little clearer. Despite the issue of pro-choice versus pro-life as well as the complex moral dilemma associated with the Gaza genocide happening under her current administration, Kamala Harris decided not to attend the Al Smith dinner in New York on October 17th.
The Al Smith dinner is a catholic fundraiser. It commemorates Al Smith, the first Roman Catholic to be nominated for president by a major political party in 1928. It is tradition for candidates to go to the dinner and tell jokes and roast one another in the spirit of camaraderie and unity for a higher cause. For insight, this year Donald Trump was there, as he has been every time he has run for president, and so was Letitia James; the woman who took Trump to court and tried to seize his assets. It’s a night where people can put their differences aside and come together for Jesus. There are only two presidential candidates who haven’t attended the dinner, Walter Mondale in 1984 and now Kamala Harris. If history is relevant in any capacity it’s important to note that Mondale lost to Ronald Reagan in a landslide, only winning his home state of Minnesota. And get this, Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, is currently governor of Minnesota; you can't make this stuff up.
On the same day of the dinner however, VP Harris and Trump were both campaigning in Wisconsin earlier in the day. At Harris’ rally there was at least one if not a few individuals who yelled at her from the crowd that “Jesus is King”, while she was discussing abortion. Kamala turned to them and said that they were at the wrong rally and that they probably meant to go to the smaller one down the street, referring to the Trump rally that was happening at the same time. All of this happened only a few days before Harris went to two churches in Georgia this Sunday, to rally supporters and encourage them to vote for her. The only relationship with Jesus that I have a pulse on is mine, that said, his’ with her or likely hers' with him, optically appears dubious, if I can say.
Word of Encouragement
This week I want to encourage you in that more unites us than what separates us. I like being different. I don’t want to be the same as others or over time with respect to myself. I want things in my life to be unique and exclusive to me. That said, at the end of the day despite our differences, humans must learn to get along. We have to figure out how to find commonality with our fellow person. And honestly it’s not that hard. Our differences stand out because being different is how we stand out. Standing it out is how you “get ahead” in life whatever that means to you, but commonality is how you get along in life. Getting along with others matters more on all metrics than getting ahead of others. Life is designed in such a way where you will naturally not get along with everyone. You don’t need to create additional points of separation. When you operate in the spirit of unity the right people will naturally come to you out of common interest and the wrong people will naturally steer clear of you for the same reason.
